”A remarkable and unlikely fusion of traditional English folk music re-cast in a shiny, brassy quartet of saxophone. Diversity at its best”.
Kind words from John Kirkpatrick..... 'Blissful arrangements'.
(Chippenham Folk Festival on 24th May: John was drawn to our performance on the Community Stage and joined us at the bar later on to make this very lovely comment)
This was, in fact, musical excellence!
I will admit that the prospect of a saxophone quartet playing predominantly traditional folk music didn’t inspire me.
I was wrong!
Guinea Lane were entertaining, witty and musically excellent.
Opening with their adaption of High Barbary, a traditional shanty,
their 30 min set included just two songs with vocals: ‘John Barleycorn’, and their final track ‘Brother can you spare me a dime?’
This was all about instrumental excellence and I, for one, would be happy to see a longer set from Guinea Lane Saxophone Quartet.

Sidmouth Folk Festival 2025
Following our debut at the Cellar Bar supporting Mishra last year, we were delighted to be asked to support Tamsin Elliott and Tarek Elazhary in 2025. We also delighted our regular crowd by busking beside the lych gate of the Parish church. We loved seeing our regular crowd and especially the dancing! We also raised a record amount towards the festival with our collection box.

And excellent you all were !
All I could catch were two outdoors events at the church lychgate. Made my day !
